Sensory Room

Our New Sensory Room

Thanks to generous grant donations and successful fundraising efforts, we have been able to refurbish and design our very own Sensory Room at Apple Tree Farm! This project has been a labour of love, developed over several months, resulting in a beautifully transformed cabin both inside and out.

A Collaborative Effort

The creation of the Sensory Room was a collaborative effort involving many of the young people we support. Some of them played a hands-on role in building the sensory room, with one individual even progressing to a carpentry apprenticeship as a result of this experience. Additionally, more children who access the farm contributed to designing the interior space and planning the development of the accessible exterior entryway.

This project has provided the children and young people involved with a unique opportunity to take ownership and responsibility for something significant to their daily activities on the farm. Their engagement in this project has not only enhanced their practical skills but also boosted their confidence and sense of accomplishment.

Benefits of Sensory Rooms

Our Sensory Room offers a therapeutic environment tailored to support children with additional needs. Sensory rooms are designed to help manage stress, improve focus, and enhance overall well-being by using various stimuli such as lights, colours, sounds, and textures. These spaces are particularly beneficial for children with sensory processing disorders, autism, and other special educational needs, aiding in self-regulation of emotions and behaviours.
