What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based form of talking therapy that helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours.
Sometimes difficult experiences can lead to patterns of thinking that keep us feeling anxious, low or overwhelmed. CBT helps identify these patterns and teaches practical strategies to challenge unhelpful thoughts, manage emotions and develop healthier ways of coping.
CBT is goal-focused and collaborative. Rather than only exploring the past, it also focuses on the present and equips you with tools and techniques that you can continue to use long after therapy has ended.
CBT can be effective in supporting people experiencing:
- Anxiety and excessive worry
- Depression and low mood
- Stress and burnout
- Panic attacks
- Phobias
- Low self-esteem
- Obsessive thoughts and behaviours
- Trauma-related difficulties (where appropriate)
At Roots to Resilience, CBT techniques may be incorporated into counselling where they are appropriate for your individual needs, helping you build confidence, resilience and practical skills to support your wellbeing.
Confidentiality
Your privacy is important to us.
Information shared during counselling sessions will remain confidential and secure. Brief notes may be kept in accordance with UK GDPR and professional counselling standards.
There are, however, circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, including:
- Risk of serious harm to yourself
- Risk of serious harm to another person
- Safeguarding concerns involving a child or vulnerable adult
- Legal requirements
Wherever possible, this will be discussed with you before information is shared.
Attendance Expectations
To help you gain the greatest benefit from counselling, we ask that you:
- Attend sessions regularly
- Arrive on time
- Notify us if you are unable to attend
- Complete any outcome or feedback questionnaires requested
Please note:
- Missed sessions cannot be rescheduled or replaced
- If you arrive late, the session will finish at the usual time
- If the counsellor is unable to attend due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, your session will be rearranged
Young People Under 18
For young people under 18 (and above 14) years of age, parental or carer consent is normally required before counselling can begin. Referrals for young people under 18 years of age will only be accepted if made by a parent/carer, or if made by a professional with parent/carer consent and knowledge.
The counselling relationship is primarily confidential between the young person and the counsellor, except where safeguarding concerns arise.
Safeguarding
Apple Tree Farm Services CIC is committed to keeping children, young people, and vulnerable adults safe.
If concerns arise regarding a person’s safety or wellbeing, appropriate safeguarding procedures will be followed in line with our safeguarding policies and legal responsibilities.
Measuring Impact
As part of this funded programme, we gather anonymous feedback and outcome information to help us understand the difference counselling makes.
This information helps us:
- Improve the service
- Demonstrate impact
- Secure future funding
- Expand support to more people in our community
No personal information will be shared as part of this evaluation process.
Service Capacity
Roots to Resilience is a limited-capacity project funded from September 2026 to August 2027.
The service can support approximately 25 individuals during the funding period, with each person receiving a full block of ten counselling sessions.
Places will therefore be allocated based on suitability, availability, and capacity.
