Farm & Flourish — Therapeutic Early Intervention Programme

Farm & Flourish is a structured, evidence-informed early intervention programme developed by Apple Tree Farm Services CIC to support neurodivergent children aged 8–12 who are experiencing burnout, anxiety, and emotional-based school avoidance (EBSA). The programme is designed to prevent escalation to long-term disengagement, reduce pressure on specialist services, and promote sustainable reintegration into education.

Delivered over 12 weeks within a regulated therapeutic farm environment, Farm & Flourish combines nature-based interventions, animal-assisted activities, and psychologically informed practice. Sessions are delivered in small groups with a high adult-to-child ratio by a multidisciplinary team of qualified practitioners with expertise in neurodiversity, trauma-informed care, and child mental health.

The programme follows a staged model focusing on:
  • emotional regulation and stabilisation
  • gradual re-engagement with peers and structured activity
  • development of social, communication and resilience skills

Outcome monitoring is embedded from baseline to completion using validated measures, enabling commissioners to assess impact on attendance, emotional wellbeing, anxiety, and readiness for learning.

Farm & Flourish also includes structured parental engagement and liaison with schools and professionals to support consistency, transition planning, and longer-term outcomes.

This programme offers a cost-effective, preventative alternative to crisis intervention and specialist placement, supporting local authorities to meet statutory duties around inclusion, early help, and mental health while improving life chances for vulnerable children.
